A Knoxville neighborhood will receive $1 million in safety improvements if the city has its way.
Fort Sanders is home to mostly UT students, so its population comes and goes with each passing semester, and crime has been an ongoing concern there.
So Tuesday, City Council agreed to apply for a grant that would allow officials to make various improvements. Nothing is set in stone just yet, but they could include better lighting and sidewalks, plus programs to better educate residents about safety.
The city should know by September if the grant money is approved.
