Thursday, students at one Knox County elementary school got a lesson in sandwich making.

3rd graders with Mooreland Heights Elementary School made a 50-foot Subway sandwich.

With gloves on, the kids added the meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato.

The students invited adults to come and eat the sandwich at lunch time for a donation.  All of the money will go to the 5th grade Safety Patrol's trip to Washington D.C.

This is the third year Subway has donated the food for the kids.

The students also learned about writing, math, science, and art in the process. They wrote letters about the experience and used rulers to measure out the food.

Student Ian Lindsay, said, "It was just so fun that we actually get to do it and I was just so excited that we get to make it."

Also, one of the 3rd grade teachers' son has a brain tumor and just had surgery.

For every Subway cookie sold at the lunch, money went to Cole Cross's recovery.
