An Ohio man was drunk when he caused a crash that killed an East Tennessee couple who were taking their kids to see their grandparents for Christmas.
The accident happened on December 23, 2012, on I-75 in Warren County, Ohio. Investigators say Joshua Nkansah, 40, had a blood alcohol content of .346, more than four times the legal limit, when he got on the interstate going the wrong way.
He slammed into a minivan carrying killing Michelle and Scott Barhorst of Madisonville, and their four children. The couple was killed, along with Nkansah and his 7-year-old son. The Barhorst children were seriously injured, along with another child in Nkansah's car.
"Impaired driving has life altering consequences, as demonstrated in this horrible crash," said Colonel John Born, Patrol Superintendent. "This crash underscores the Patrol's resolve to remove these dangerous drivers from Ohio's roadways."
The Barhorst family had recently moved to Madisonville, and were on their way to visit family for Christmas when the crash happened.
