A flower bulb sale this weekend will continue the vision of Maria Compere, who is responsible for planting two million daffodil bulbs along Pellissippi Parkway.
Every spring, yellow flowers bloom along the roadway. Compere spent almost three decades planting the bulbs herself and encouraging others to do the same.
She passed away last month at the age of 97. Her family is continuing her work through the organization she founded, Knoxville Green.
"She did many things in Knoxville, but this had her heart. This was her favorite thing. This is what she loved so much, and when she was in the hospital, we talking about it and we promised her that we would continue her project," said Suzy Compere, Maria's daughter.
A bulb sale Saturday and Sunday will support Knoxville Green. It's at Windsor Square Shopping Center next to Bailey's Sports Bar from 10-4 Saturday and 1-4 Sunday.
Eveyone who attends gets 15 free flower bulbs.
