A former UT basketball coach has been tied to a crime at Thompson Boling Arena.
Troy Wills, a former men's basketball strength and conditioning coach, is charged with burglary and vandalism after investigators say he was caught on camera breaking into an office at the arena.
According to court documents, a Knoxville Police officer was called to Thompson Boling Arena on Saturday, February 23. It appeared to the officer that someone had used a saw to break into room 230. The man who uses the office said $4150 dollars had been stolen from his desk.
On surveillance video, the officer identified Wills walking into and out of the office with what appeared to be a saw in his hand.
In addition to the theft, more than $750 dollars in damage was done to the office in the process of the burglary.
Wills also faces a theft charge in a separate case, where he is accused of stealing a $100 dollar of tanning product from Fusion Tanning Studio in December.
According to the university, Wills was hired on October 1, 2003. He began working with the men's basketball team when Bruce Pearl was coach. Coach Cuonzo Martin dismissed Wills shortly after the end of the 2011-12 season.
