An organization dedicated to improving the health of babies is working to raise tens of thousands of dollars.
The community came together Wednesday morning to support the March of Dimes. The group's mission is to prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
Each year, more than half-a-million babies are born prematurely. A lot of times, the cause is unknown. Researching the cause of prematurity is just one thing March of Dimes fundraising benefits.
"The 2013 March for Babies is important to the organization and this year's goal was to raise around $245,000 for premature births and babies," said BJ Hillard.
March of Dimes is also gearing up for the March for Babies in May. It's also celebrating the 75th anniversary of March of Dimes.
