The "King of Country" played in Knoxville for the the last time Friday night. Country legend George Strait chose Thompson-Boling Arena as one of the stops on his farewell tour.
More than 20,000 fans showed up to enjoy the double concert. Chart-topper Martina McBride was the opening act.
It's hard to even begin to cover George Strait's success. He has had 59 number one hits, and fans here say they are honored he chose Knoxville on his farewell tour. He's performed in Knoxville many times in his 30 plus year career.
This show is not like many country music concerts you'll go to these days. Strait's signature style is simple, but he doesn't need a lot to keep the crowd entertained.
A special part of the show, came when Strait honored Army Staff Sergeant Mike Wells for his heroism. He was wounded in battle. Strait told him he will be receiving a home in Florida through the Homes 4 Wounded Warriors program that Strait supports.
