Y-12 security police officers said they detained a man for trespassing on Y-12 property at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Officers saw him riding on a bicycle on Y-12's north patrol road during a random check of the area. According to a Y-12 press release, the man didn't enter the high security area of the plant.
Still as a precaution, the plant entered a heightened state of security to ensure the safety and security of the facility. Canine patrols swept the area for any trespassers, but none were found. Following the inspections, the plant returned to its normal operations.
Y-12 officials have since turned the case over to the Oak Ridge Police Department.
The north patrol road is located on the Y-12 property next to official boundary of the 810 acre facility. Authorities said this area has many visible "no trespassing" signs. Canine units frequently patrol this road, which is located away from the main production areas.
