Outdoor Industry Association, a trade association for the outdoor industry, released a study today saying that $8.2 billion is spent annually on outdoor recreation in Tennessee.
Spending amounts were determined through household surveys asking people to recall their spending on outdoor activities during the previous 12 months.
The research was performed by Southwick Associates, a research firm specializing in shooting sports, hunting, angling, natural resource and environmental economics, and was funded in part by the Motorcycle Industry Council and Natural Marine Manufacturers Association.
Outdoor recreation supports 83,100 jobs, generates $2.5 billion in wages, and $535 million in state and local tax revenue, the association said.
Nationally, American spend $64 billion on outdoor recreation, according to the study.
