Two firefighters injured battling Townsend house fire

Blount County Fire Chief Doug McClanahan says that two Townsend firefighters were injured while battling a house fire on the 200 block of Boat Gunnel Road in Townsend Wednesday morning.

The fire chief says his department was aiding Townsend Fire Department when the injuries occurred.

He said he was unaware of any event that led up to the injuries.  One firefighter was overheated, the other complained of chest pains.

The firefighter complaining of chest pains was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Chief McClanahan says the house has considerable damage and the fire was fully involved when firefighters arrived.

No other structures and no cars were affected by the flames.

No residents were in the home when the fire started.No one was home at the time a house fire started on the 200 block of Boat Gunnel Rd. in Townsend said Blount County dispatchers.

Emergency crews became aware of the fire around 7:25 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Both Townsend and Blount County Fire Departments battled the blaze in the foothills of the Smokies.

Dispatchers believe four to five trucks were called in to contain the flames.
