Eight Knox County students and teachers got a pleasant surprise on Wednesday. Knox County's director of school nutrition surprised a student at South Knoxville Elementary School with a new bicycle and helmet.
Fifth grader Corbin Day is one of eight students who won a school system wide essay contest. Day's teacher says he is an excellent student.
"Very proud of this young man, very proud. He has a very good work ethic, his skills are above average; it's because of the effort he shows," said Teresa Charles.
Charles also won a prize, a digital camera, thanks to Day's winning essay.
Day's essay discusses the importance of eating breakfast each morning.
