MURFREESBORO - A spokesperson for the Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed the driver of a dump truck that went over an embankment at the Hoover Rock Quarry on Twin Oak Drive was killed in the accident.
The truck fell approximately 60-80 feet down the embankment and landed on its roof, killing the driver, according to THP spokesperson Jennifer Donnals.
"We cannot release the name at this time as next of kin has not been notified," she stated. "At this point THP cannot determine the cause. The incident remains under investigation."
Rutherford County Sherrif's Office spokeswoman Lisa Marchesoni said supervisors on the scene indicated the area in which the accident occured was "remote and rough."
The Rutherford County Emergency Management's Agency's Special Operations and Response Team also responded to the scene.
LifeFlight air support had been dispatched to the scene, but the request was canceled around 10 a.m., according to scanner traffic.
Reports indicate the truck was only reachable by foot.
Donnals said identity of the driver will likely be released Sunday after family have been notified. An investigation into the wreck will take some time, she added.
