Update 10:23 a.m.

The body of a missing Maryville man has been recovered following a canoe accident on Tellico Lake Sunday.

According to a press release, the TWRA says 25-year-old Edward Russell of Maryville tried to swim to shore when the canoe carrying him and two other men overturned around 5:00 p.m.

While one man, 22-year-old James Parker of Louisville, swam to shore safely, Russell went under and did not resurface.

The third man, 21-year-old Eric Morgan of Rockford stayed with the canoe.  He was rescued by a passing boat.

Several agencies searched for Morgan including Blount County Sheriff's Office, the Blount County Fire Department, the Blount County Rescue Squad, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Monroe County Rescue Squad, and the Rural Metro Ambulance Service.  His body was recovered 12:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Morgan was taken by ambulance to Blount Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

Parker did not need medical treatment.

Previous story

Authorities continue to search for a missing person after a canoe flipped over in a Blount County lake, which sent another person to the hospital.

The incident happened on Harrison Branch Dock on Tellico Lake a mile south of Chilhowee Lake on Sunday afternoon.

TWRA officials, the Blount County Rescue Squad and Blount County Sheriff's Office are working the search. TWRA spokesperson Jeff Roberson said those efforts are now focused on recovery and not a rescue.

Divers searched the lake for the missing person well into Sunday night. As of 11:20 p.m., divers were still in the water. Officials said they would likely suspend the search during the overnight hours.

According to authorities, if crews didn't find the body, they would continue the search Monday morning.

The other victim has been treated and released, but officials are not releasing any more details at this time.

Editors note: TWRA spokesman Jeff Roberson told 10News they initially thought the incident happened on Chilhowee Lake, but later found out it actually occurred a mile south on Harrison Branch Dock on Tellico Lake.
