Family and friends are grieving the loss of a prominent local architect who died in a weekend motorcycle accident.

58-year-old Ed Bankston lived in Knoxville his entire life. He was a graduate of West High School and UT. His family says he died Saturday when a car hit his motorcycle from behind on I-75 in Chattanooga.

Bankston's architectural career encompassed a wide range of building types including residential, commercial, governmental and education. His most recent project was renovating the Oak Ridge Police Department. He's also helped renovate and fund construction for his fraternity at UT.

His family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. He will be laid to rest on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery.
