Local mayors spent Wednesday morning delivering food to East Tennessee senior citizens.
The mayors of Farragut, Knox County and Knoxville rode along with Mobile Meals volunteers as they delivered a total of 850 meals to needy senior citizens.
Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero met Barbara Pate, who described how she is extremely grateful for the hot meal each day. She has been receiving one meal a day for two years.
Each mayor described why they wanted to take time out of their day to see how the Mobile Meals program works
"Well, I think it's a good community event and we are certainly happy to participate in any way we can and I think it's a great program. All over the nation, it's a big deal," said Farragut Mayor Ralph McGill.
Currently, Mobile Meals has a waiting list. This is the first time in four years they've had to tell senior citizens to wait to be put on their food route.
