A proposal to reform Tennessee's beer tax laws is advancing in the state legislature.
Right now, Tennessee has the highest beer tax in the country because a decades-old law requires a 17% wholesale tax based on the price of beer. The new proposal would switch it to a volume based calculation.
The bill passed committees in both the house and senate Tuesday.
The dates for the next committees to hear the bill have not yet been set.
