A bill that would require pit bull owners to carry liability insurance appears to have stalled in the state legislature.

The proposal calls for owners of vicious dogs to carry $25,000 dollars in liability insurance.

An amendment to the bill says that any breed "commonly known as a pit bull" is automatically considered a vicious dog.

A house subcommittee was scheduled to discuss the measure Wednesday, but they took it off the committee's calendar.

Opponents of the bill say that effectively kills it for this legislative session.
