East Tennessee high school students packed a West Knoxville arcade for a free prom dress giveaway on Saturday morning.
The Sparkle Project handed out up free dresses to any high school girl at the West Town Regal Cinema. The effort is to help girls feel beautiful for prom despite the tough economy. Dresses were distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
The Sparkle Project's coordinator Courtnie Zain said the community donated 200 dresses, which doubled the size they had from last year's giveaway.
"We all have prom dresses hanging in our closet that we all know aren't going to get worn again," said Zain. "We just wanted to donate them to girls and help make them feel beautiful this year."
