A Knoxville Fire Department spokesperson urges the public to dial 911 anytime they suspect a fire after a north Knoxville man ignored the early warning signs of a house fire Monday morning.

According to a press release, the resident of a house on the 700 block of E. Oldham Avenue first smelled smoke around 3:00 a.m.  The resident went back to sleep.

Heavier smoke woke him up four hours later.  He then called E911 around 7:00 a.m.

When fire crews arrived, the fire had moved into the attic from between the walls in the bedroom.

No one was injured in the fire.

Investigators are looking into what started the fire.  But foul play is not suspected.
