Sevier County officials have revised the number of buildings that were destroyed in a massive fire last week at Black Bear Ridge Resort off Wears Valley Road.
Initially, it was reported that 81 structures, mostly homes, were destroyed or damaged in the fire. Now, after reviewing records with the Sevier County Property Assessor's office, officials say there were 8 concrete pads that did not have buildings on them that were included in the initial count. Taking that into account, officials now say 53 structures were destroyed and 20 were damaged.
The monetary value of the structures is estimated to be approximately $12 million dollars.
270 first responders representing 48 agencies from several counties helped battle the blaze. Because of their continued efforts for about 24 hours, approximately 200 homes were saved.
