Knoxville Police say the man who jumped off a bridge after a traffic stop Monday was wanted for failure to appear in Knox County court.
Charles White, 36, broke his ankle after he fell about 30 feet when he jumped off the overpass to avoid the officer. He now faces an additional charge of fleeing.
White was a passenger in a car driven by Jason Brown, 32, of Clinton, who was pulled over for traffic violations.
A man trying to flee from a Knoxville Police officer jumped more than 30 feet off a bridge, breaking his ankle.
The officer pulled over the 1997 Chevy Blazer just before 2:00 pm on Western Avenue near downtown Knoxville. The driver jumped out of the vehicle and jumped over the bridge barrier, falling onto the pavement below.
He was transported to UT Medical Center by ambulance.
The suspect's name has not been released, but charges are pending. KPD has not released why the driver was pulled over or why he may have tried to evade arrest.
