On March 27, 2013 the Dogwood Arts Festival announced they have teamed up with award-winning filmmaker Keith McDaniel to present a film festival in the fall.

McDaniel, who produced the Secret City Film Festival for 9 years, told WBIR that it will now be called the Knoxville Film Festival and will take place September 19-22, 2013 at the Regal Downtown West Cinema 8 in Knoxville. McDaniel will serve as the film festival's General Director and Senior Programmer.
