Some students from Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Technology Academy have been invited to the White House on Thursday to help plant a vegetable garden.
The students will join First Lady Michelle Obama to plant the garden on the South Lawn. This is the fifth year for the event and the first time a Knoxville School has been invited.
Mrs. Obama invited children from schools that have made exceptional improvements to school lunches through implementation of the Healthy, Hunger-free Kids act.
This past fall, Sarah Moore Greene Elementary started a Jeffersonian Heirloom Garden and connected this project to 3rd - 5th grade social studies coursework highlighting American presidents who have had a role in gardening and stewardship.
