Three athletes will be racing in this weekend's Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon in their wheelchairs.
They make up 50 Ability Marathons. The team is doing 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 weeks. It's something no one has ever attempted in a wheelchair before. The race in Knoxville will mark number 12 out of 50.
Ahead of Sunday's race, the athletes shared their story with patients at the Patricia Neal Rehab Center. They hope their story will inspire others, with or without a disability, to push themselves.
"Just get out and do 30 minutes of exercise a day. Have something to shoot for-- a goal. If it's getting out of bed in the morning to get dressed by yourself, you know, that's a start. But have something bigger and better to shoot for," said Paul Erway, a member of the 50 Ability Marathon team.
While the team races through 50 marathons, they'll be raising money for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation to help others with spinal injuries.
