In April of 2011, hail storms seriously damaged the roof at Childhelp Tennessee. Patches were made to provide temporary repairs but the child advocacy group was still in desperate need of a new roof  as well as an outside brick wall repaired.

In December 2012, work began to repair the roof as part of the Labor of Love Project, a partnership between Channel 10 and the Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville.

By the first week of April 2013, Childhelp now has a new roof and work is underway to fix the outside wall.

"We've had a lot of volunteers that have worked on that roof and given material and so forth," said Wayne Decker of Holston Construction Company. "The next thing we've go to do is repair the masonry on this side of the building."

Childhelp Tennesse Director Hugh Nystrom says he and his group are grateful to the Home Builders Association for the work they've done to repair their aging building.

"Thanks to the Knoxville Home builders association, we've been able to get the roof replaced," said Nystrom. "We've got a lot of projects. Our "punch list" inside is starting to finally get worked on and now, we're almost done by getting the bricks in the wall stabilized so it's been along time coming and we're almost there."

Nystrom and Decker believe the outside work should finish in two weeks.

"After we get the outside done we're going to focus on the inside," said Nysrom. "The final "punch list" of painting, trim work and relatively minor easy fixes  so that we can serve clients and make it easy for our social workers to work."
