Nearly 7,500 runners and walkers participated in the 2013 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon on Sunday.
Race categories included the marathon, half-marathon, 5k, wheelchair, relay, and kids fun run.
Wojciech Kopec, 26, of Searcy, Ark. was the top finisher in the marathon, completing the 26.2-mile course at 2:22:15 - a personal best. Kopec said the course was tough because of the number of hills, but it was well worth the price when he laid eyes on the finish line.
"It was a pretty amazing feeling. I couldn't explain," said Kopec. "I won . . . that's why I came here."
Courtney Cooper, 24, of Boone, N.C. was the marathon's first place finisher in the woman's division at 3:01:49.
Nearly 700 people ran in the full marathon, with an average time of 4:30:00. About 2,400 participated in the half, finishing in about 2:20:00.
The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is the only road race to finish on the 50-yard line in Neyland Stadium and is the largest event for the Knoxville Track Club.
