A committee has finalized plans to put the phrase "In God We Trust" on one county's courthouse.
Commissioners approved a motion Monday that would put the phrase over the Anderson County courthouse's four entrances. They also decided to not include other phrases like "E Plubrus Unum" and the state's motto "Agriculture and Commerce."
They still have a final vote next week on the matter, but for now commissioners say they're ready to put the contentious debate behind them.
"It's so good to have this behind us. This sort of debate tends to separate us at times, but I know these people well enough that we'll come back together and we'll work hard. Next challenge-- budget. We'll take that on and do what we do best and that's good government here in Anderson County," said Commissioner Dusty Irwin.
The final vote is set for next Monday.
