Authorities say an assault suspect led them on a high speed chase through north Knoxville Tuesday afternoon.

It started at the Walgreens at the corner of Coker Avenue and Broadway.

Authorities say 24-year-old Paul Grubbs hit someone on the head with a handgun around 3:30 in the afternoon. They say he stole the victim's wallet then fled in an SUV.

The victim chased Grubbs, then police took over.

They pursued the man through the neighborhood, until the suspect stopped near Whittle Springs Middle School, when he saw students walking home.

Police took Grubbs into custody, along with a woman who was in the car.
