Some East Tennessee students got some inspiration from a former Vol on Monday.
Inky Johnson spoke to students a Powell Middle School about overcoming obstacles. Johnson's football career ended in September 2006 when a hard hit during the Vols game with the Air Force left him with a serious arm injury.
Since then, he's written a book and travels across the country encouraging other with his story of perseverance.
Monday, he told the students that obstacles are an inevitable part of life. He says what happens to you or around you isn't what matters, it's how you respond.
"Even if I just touch one, and get the attention of one, it's all worth it. You know, I'm just out trying to change lives and help kids learn the way so my living will not go in vain," he said.
Johnson says he spoke to the Vols football team on Saturday and watched their scrimmage. He says morale is high and he likes the direction in which Coach Jones is taking the program, and he thinks there are good things ahead for the team.
