A South Knoxville home is destroyed after going up in flames Tuesday night.
Intense flames at a home on South Creek Road off Maryville Pike caused the brick facade on the front of the house to collapse on top of a firefighter. He then fell from a window to the ground.
Crews transported the firefighter to UT Medical Center with minor injuries. Fire officials say he is okay.
Other firefighters then pulled back in fear of another collapse.
"We do believe that on all sides of the structure at some point we will have a collapse, so we're making sure that all fire teams are well outside of the collapse zone," said Battalion Chief Rick Herrell.
No one else was hurt, and the homeowners were not home when the fire started.
A family member at the scene, Don Kurka, says the couple's cat died in the fire. Their dog made it out safely. Kurka says his relatives are very distraught.
"All her belonging and all her pictures... which were something that she cherished, and it was a terrible loss," said Kurka.
Kurka says his relatives owned the home for about 10 years. He says it was a beautiful lake front with a dock. He says he believes his loved ones will rebuild.
