Hawkins Co. inmate takes advantage of bathroom break to make a break for it

A Hawkins County correctional officer quickly recaptured a 37-year-old inmate who had escaped from a hospital bathroom Tuesday.

According to a press release, a correctional officer took David Shawn Harris of Bulls Gap to the Hawkins County Memorial Hospital Emergency Room to be treated.

Harris was granted a bathroom break during which he left the Emergency Room and ran.

The correctional officer chased after Harris capturing him close to the hospital.

Harris was originally in jail for felony violation of community corrections.

After the brief escape, Harris was charged with felony escape.

He is scheduled to appear in the Hawkins County General Sessions Court today.
