Construction on Western Avenue, between Keith Avenue and Richmond Avenue, will
be closed to through traffic beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, April 29th - Tuesday,
KUB and its contractor are closing the area as part of an ongoing PACE 10
wastewater collection system improvement construction project. PACE 10 is KUB's
accelerated 10-year wastewater improvement program to correct the problem of
sewer overflows and to provide a wastewater system that can better serve
Construction is expected to happen seven days a week (weather permitting) to
upgrade the wastewater trunkline along the 3/4 mile corridor bordering the East
Fork of Third Creek. KUB says the work may necessitate a minimal water service
interruption for customers in the immediate construction area. These interruptions are necessary to minimize
wastewater flows as tie-ins are made to the new system, but impacted customers
will be notified at least 24 hours before that happens.
A detour route will be set up around the work area via Texas Avenue,
Heiskell Avenue, Johnston Street, Tennessee Avenue, and Schofield Street. While
the section of Western Avenue will be closed to through traffic, area businesses and driveways in the work zone will still be able to access the road. Emergency
vehicles will also have access.
Information about the project will be posted on the KUB
website and the KUB
Facebook page. Also, customers may call the KUB construction project
hotline at (865) 558-2330 to leave a message. A KUB representative should respond to those messages by the end of the next business day.
