KPD identifies women's body found in motel parking lot

Update: 11:36 a.m.

Knoxville police identified the body of a woman found in Motel 6's parking lot at Merchants Center Blvd. in Northwest Knoxville Saturday morning.

Police, Knoxville Fire Department and Rural Metro EMS found the body of Tracie Ann Potts, 41, of Knoxville inside a parked vehicle at about 6:40 a.m.

Before authorities arrived, a guest saw the body inside the car and alerted a motel employee. The employee said the Potts was unresponsive when they checked on her, so they called 911.

Officials said there was no evidence of trauma or violence to the victim, and they're still trying to determine the cause of death.

Knoxville police are investigating what caused a woman to die in the parking lot of a Motel 6 at Merchants Center Blvd. in Northwest Knoxville on Saturday morning.

Police, Knoxville Fire Department and Rural Metro EMS responded to the scene at about 6:40 a.m. and found a women's body in the front passenger seat of a parked vehicle.

Before authorities arrived, a guest saw the body inside the car and alerted a motel employee. The employee said the Potts was unresponsive when they checked on her, so they called 911.

Officials said there was no evidence of trauma or violence to the victim, and they're still trying to determine the cause of death. They aren't giving out the woman's identity until they notify her family.
