A few years ago Cortny Bean wasn't sure what was going to happen.
She was a single mom of a precious boy and it seemed that things were stacked against her. This is where Cortny looked her future in the face and started to make some changes.
Cortny's son Braxton's picture is all over her apartment at the Restoration House. She smiles when she speaks of him and she knows that there was a point in her life when she was putting him up for adoption. She thought she was doing the right thing. She calls it divine intervention and some how she now is the proud mom of this little guy. As she started to change, her church family helped her out and for this is she is appreciative. Then there was a phone call to Restoration House that would be pivotal.
As Cortny explains that the program is not a hand out. "They help you get good direction" they also help you down a path that might be uncertain as you and your child or children grow.
Many people have heard of the Restoration House because Extreme Home Makeover Home Edition was here last year for some time during the rainiest, coldest days of January.
What grew from the ground in West Knoxville is a haven for these single mothers to learn how to become part of the community. They walk with them as they get their feet back under them.
I have met Cortny a couple of times once during that first day in January when Jenny McCarthy used her bull horn as we all sat patiently on a hill near a big bus.
Always cordial and usually has a smile on her face.
It's a pleasure for me to know and to be proud of her for Graduating from Restoration House and college in almost the same month. She has also bought a house for she and Braxton to live in.
She's come a long way in her heart and I'm sure this isn't the last we've seen of this mom.
