One of the world's most decorated writers visited Knoxville Sunday to promote his new book.
Three-time Pulitzer prize-winner Rick Atkinson discussed his latest work "Guns at Last Night," the third and final installment in his "Liberation Trilogy."
The three-part series focuses on the battle over Europe during World War II. "Guns at Last Night" keys in on the campaigns of Western European countries as they march toward D-Day and the Normandy Invasion.
Atkinson says he writes about the war to keep history alive.
"It's important for all of us who are older and can at least remember the residual effects of the war to help them to remember," said Atkinson. "Not only did we have 400,000 Americans, but also because it had an incredible impact on our national history."
Atkinson won a Pulitzer Prize for his first book in the trilogy "An Army at Dawn."
