(WBIR- Bean Station, Tenn.) A former police officer has been charged overnight with a shooting spree inside a local drugstore that left two men dead and two women injured.

The shooting happened at the Down Home pharmacy in Bean Station around 11:15 am on Thursday.

According to District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn, Jason Bryan Holt, 37, was arrested shortly after the shooting.

According to Grainger County Jail, Holt was charged and booked during the early morning hours Friday.  Dunn said at a press conference Thursday, Holt faces two counts of pre-meditated first degree murder, two counts of first degree murder during a robbery, and one count of especially aggravated robbery.

"This is a devastating event for our small community," Dunn said.

Investigators believe that Holt came into the pharmacy to get oxycodone.   In the course of the robbery, he started shooting.  The store's owner, Stephen Lovell of Morristown, was killed, along with a customer, Richard Alexander Sommerville of Bean Station.

Two pharmacy employees were also shot.  Pharmacy technician Alexia Gail Wilson, 45, of Morristown and Janet Colleen Clift of Rutledge were transported to UT Medical Center, where Dunn says they are in stable condition.

"Our prayers and our sympathies go out to the victims' families," said Dunn.

The suspect, Holt, was a former Bean Station police officer from 2002 to 2004.  Dunn says he also briefly worked for the Grainger County Sheriff's Department before leaving the force altogether.

While he was on the job, one neighbor remembered his professionalism when called to an incident in their neighborhood.

"He was very, very professional.  He seemed to take his job to heart," said Anita Hayes, a neighbor of Holt's for more than 10 years.

A few years back, Hayes said she noticed a change in Holt she attributes to medication she was told he was taking.

She says he was quiet and never came out of the house much, but when he did he was friendly.

Hayes said recently she had noticed Holt acting unstable. When she heard the news of the shooting, she was sad but not shocked.

"To be honest it really didn't surprise me in a way, since he had gotten on some medications and he was taking a lot of them," Hayes said.
