Plain Scones with Mock Devonshire Cream

3 cups all purpose flour
2 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, cut into small cubes
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 cup half and half
1/2 cup half and half
Cinnamon sugar mixture

Mock Devonshire Cream
3 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
1 tablespoon sugar
Pinch of salt
1 cup whipping cream


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray a baking sheet with Pam. Whisk together dry ingredients. Cut butter into dry ingredients until small crumbs. Add milk and stir with a fork until the dough comes together. Add a little more milk if needed. Place dough onto a floured board. Pat into a round about 3/4 inch thick. Cut with a biscuit cutter of your preference. Place close together on the prepared pan. Brush each scone lightly with half and half. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or just sugar if desired. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden and fluffy. Serve warm with jam or mock Devonshire cream.

To make the Devonshire Cream, in a small bowl, beat cream cheese with sugar and salt until smooth. Add whipped cream and beat until stiff. Cover and refrigerate.
