A man who was changing a tire on the side of the interstate was sent to the hospital after he was hit by another vehicle.
The accident happened Thursday afternoon on I-75 south, just past the Sugar Limb Road exit. Traffic was backed up for several miles after the accident.
The THP trooper who responded to the accident said a driver pulled his SUV over into the emergency lane on the right side of the road to change a tire. While he was working, a passing car sideswiped the SUV, then wrecked. The trooper wasn't sure if the man was actually hit by the car, or if the impact caused his own SUV to hit him.
The man who was changing his tire was sent to UT Medical Center. The driver of the other vehicle was sent to Ft. Loudoun Medical Center. The trooper said both were in stable condition when they were transported.
Both lanes are now back open.
