Robbers targeted SunTrust Bank at 2075 North Broadway around 9:30 am Friday morning, according to the FBI.
Officers are still looking for the suspects.
Police say two men, dressed in construction attire, including including orange shirts, vests, and hard hats, came into the back and demanded cash. One of the men had a tattoo on his right forearm, which is visible in one of the security photos.
After getting the money, the two men fled in a green Ford Ranger. That truck was carjacked just after midnight on Friday morning.
The suspects ditched the Ford at Chicago Avenue and got into another vehicle and left.
There were several employees and customers inside the bank, but no one was hurt.
According to FBI's Knoxville Division, bank robberies in the Knoxville area appear to be on the decline in 2013.
This is the third bank robbery in Knoxville this year and the fifth one the FBI's Knoxville Division has been involved with concerning the Knoxville area.
"Last year our entire division saw 31 bank robberies, 19 of those were in the Knoxville metropolitan area for 2012," FBI Supervisory Special Agent Marshall Stone said.
Stone said we are on track to have fewer bank robberies this year.
"If numbers continue for the second half of the year, then yeah, we expect lower numbers than the 19 we had last year as long as things don't pick up in the second half of the year," Agent Stone said.
Stone said it's not unusual to see crime numbers go up and down, year to year.
However, the FBI has seen better technology at banks.
"We are seeing more and more financial institutions move to digital systems which obviously give us much better pictures than we've seen," Agent Stone said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Knoxville FBI at 865-544-0751 or the KPD at 865-215-7212. A reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the men.
