(WBIR, Knoxville) Knoxville police said a teenage boy is recovering after he accidentally shot himself with a stolen pistol in South Knoxville Monday afternoon.
Officials said the incident happened shortly before noon in a courtyard in the 4600 block of Joe Lewis Road. Deputies said the 17-year-old boy shot himself in the leg with a stolen 45 caliber pistol.
The teen is facing charges, but police described his injuries as minor.
Authorities continue to investigate a separate shooting on the same street that sent two men to the hospital Saturday just after 10:00 p.m.
Two men were struck by gun fire from a silver car as it traveled down Joe Lewis Road. Paramedics drove them to the hospital with minor injuries.
(WBIR-Knoxville) Knoxville police have identified the two victims of a south Knoxville drive-by.
According to a press release, 24-year-old Jared Riddle and 20-year-old Tiberius Norries, both of Knoxville, were taken to UT Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries following a drive-by shooting on Joe Lewis Avenue Sunday night.
(WBIR-Knoxville) Knoxville Police experienced a busy night Sunday in south Knoxville as a false shooting call, and a car crash that caused a power outage happened all at around the same time.
According to a police spokesman, two victims were hit when a suspect fired several rounds from a 4-door sedan driving by the 4300 block of Joe Lewis Road around 10:10 p.m. Sunday.
Police say witnesses did not get a good look at the suspect. Witnesses last saw the suspect's car turning onto Maryville Pike.
Both victims had non life-threatening injuries. They were taken to UT Medical Center to be treated.
When the shooting happened, a boy was looking out his apartment window. When the shots rang out, police say he bobbed his head hitting it on the window sill. His family called the police thinking he had been shot. He had not been shot. However he was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The police say unrelated to the shooting, there was a single car accident on Joe Lewis and Cook Drive. A KUB power pole and transformer were damaged causing a power outage in the neighborhood.
(WBIR, Knoxville) Knoxville police responded to a multiple shots fired call in South Knoxville late Sunday night.
Dispatchers initially called police for a reported domestic abuse call on the 4300 block of Joe Lewis Road off Maryville Pike just after 10 p.m.
Eventually, more than 10 KPD officers were at the scene and closed off an area with crime scene tape.
