The Lady Vols took the field Tuesday night, needing to defeat Oklahoma to keep their dream of a national championship alive.

Once again, the Lady Vols were unable to gain momentum at the plate.

In the third inning, Keilani Ricketts hit a three-run shot off of Ivy Renfroe to give Oklahoma a 3-0 lead.

Lady Vols then looked to sister Ellen Renfroe on the mound who only gave up one run the rest of the night.

The game was the end of a very successful season for Tennessee. They made it to the championship series in 2007, before ultimately falling to Arizona.

Here is more on the game from the University of Tennessee:

The Tennessee softball team's season came to a close on Tuesday as the Lady Vols fought hard, but came up short in a 4-0 loss to Oklahoma in Game 2 of the Women's College World Series Championship Series. The Sooners are the 2013 NCAA National Champions.

Ivy Renfroe started the game and tossed 2.1 innings with two strikeouts and three runs allowed, all on Keilani Ricketts' home run. Ellen Renfroe came into the game in relief after the Ricketts home run and allowed four hits and just one earned run while fanning five in relief.

Michelle Gascoigne allowed just three hits in seven shutout innings of work while striking out 12 Lady Vols.

Tennessee had runners on base in the first, second and fifth. Madison Shipman opened the second inning with a leadoff single up the middle and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hanah Akamine. Gascoigne induced a fly to center and a swinging strikeout to leave Shipman stranded in scoring position.

Both teams traded scoreless frames through two, but in the top of the third, the Sooners leaped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a three-run shot to right off the bat of Ricketts. Brianna Turang drew a leadoff walk and Lauren Chamberlain followed with a single through the left side. Georgia laid down a sacrifice bunt to second to move the runners over. With one out, Ricketts sent a 2-1 pitch from Ivy Renfroe over into the stands in right field.

In the bottom of the fifth, Melissa Davin hit a single through the right side with one out, but the Lady Vols could not advance her. Gascoigne struck out the next two batters.

Tennessee concludes an outstanding 2013 season as the Lady Vols made their sixth appearance in the Women's College World Series and recorded their eighth season of 50 or more victories. The Lady Vols went 16-6 in the SEC and finished second in the conference in the regular season.
