In December 2012, The Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville and Channel 10 began a new Labor of Love project at Childhelp Tennessee.
Childhelp provides a child-friendly place for kids in severe child abuse cases to be interviewed and examined.
The storms of April 2011 caused severe damage to the Childhelp building in particular it's roof and siding. The plan was to replace the roof, fix the siding and make some minor repairs inside the building.
"We are 90% complete thanks to a lot of work from volunteers," said Childhelp Tennessee director Hugh Nystrom.
Nystrom had a number of people to thank for their work:
Holston Construction, LLC, the general contractor for the project(special recognition to Wayne Decker).
"Zurich Roofing for providing a brand new roof for the building so we don'' have to worry about leaking." said Nystrom.
"F. L. Lay Masonry has done an incredible job with the masonry so we don't have to worry about the walls falling off the building. Baird and Wilson Sheet Metal has created a cap on top of the building with the metal trim that is almost artistic. Tindell's building supply has donated all the wood and the things to trim out the building to make it look perfect."
According to Scott Davis, President of the Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville, the plan is to now work on all the cosmetic issues inside the building like adding a chair rail, working on baseboards and painting.
