Community members in Cocke County gathered to support a family that lost two of its own earlier in the week.
On Monday, 62-year-old Charles McMahan, and his 6-year-old grandson Dylan Sisk, died in a two car crash near Newport. Officials say an SUV hit McMahan's Honda Accord from behind as he tried to turn into a driveway.
Family and friends buried McMahan and Sisk on Friday, but their funeral expenses totaled more than $8,000.
the Ervin brothers of Cocke County organized a fundraiser with other residents to fill those costs.
"I didn't know it was this strong [the support], it's blew my mind how everybody's come together in a bad time," said Lisa McMahan, who is the mother of Dylan Sisk and daughter of Charles McMahan.
The fundraiser included raffles and auctions. Michael Ervin told 10News he expected to raise about $2,000 from the event.
The Sisk and McMahan families said they were grateful.
"All the cards, all the donations, all the churches that are praying, I thank you so much," McMahan said.
