A home burglary and stolen gun landed a Hawkins County man in jail.
Investigators say Dustin Alan Caldwell broke into the home of a Hawkins County deputy while the deputy and his family were on vacation.
When the family arrived home, Deputy Rusty Ferrell realized his Glock 45-caliber service weapon was missing. He called the sheriff's department, reported the burglary and through a joint investigation, determined Caldwell was a suspect.
Authorities eventually tracked Caldwell down. By then, they say he had already given the gun to someone else. However, investigators found that person and used the gun's serial number to positively identify it.
Caldwell is charged with aggravated burglary and theft of property over $500. Both are felony offenses.
