Jimmy Haslam speaks to Wall Street Journal about Pilot Flying J fraud scandal

An article in the Wall Street Journal Wednesday focused on the rebate fraud scandal at Pilot Flying J.

In the article, Jimmy Haslam says he's working to make things right with customers who may have been wronged, and that's all he can really focus on right now.

He said, "I can't really worry about indictments because I have no control." He went on to say, "My focus has got be on fixing the problem. I got to focus on what I can control."

There have also been questions about why Haslam made such a speedy return to his position as CEO last year after just five months away.

John Compton who worked as CEO for the company in Haslam's absence. He told the Journal Haslam returned because he "missed it too much."

Haslam also spoke about his interactions with clients since the rebate fraud scheme came to light in mid-April, saying he had "taken some chewings" about it, but that "I think people appreciate it, when you go to them and you say, 'It looks like some of our guys messed up. If we did mess up, we're going to fix it.'"

More than a dozen companies have filed suit against the travel giant.

Five Pilot sales employees have pleaded guilty in connection with the rebate fraud scheme.
