Pat Summitt is as much a part of East Tennessee as the Smoky Mountains, and probably both are taken for granted. But she is a national figure and celebrity, and a new ESPN documentary gives a glimpse of Pat few have gotten to see.
Wednesday's screening was the first for folks in Knoxville, and an invitation-only crowd showed up to watch including Summitt herself, friends and family, Athletic Director Dave Hart and Lady Vols Athletic Director Emeritus Joan Cronin.
The University of Tennessee announced it was honoring Summitt in a new way. The area at the corner of Lake Loudoun Boulevard and Phillip Fulmer Way will become Pat Summitt Plaza, complete with a statue of the Lady Vols legend. The Tennessee Fund is picking up the tab for the project.
