(WBIR- Knoxville) As East Tennessee prepares for a busy week of boating for the 4th of July, TVA has mixed news on river and lake conditions.
Despite all the recent rain, TVA says water levels are in great shape. Rain levels are still 35 percent higher than normal, but the river scheduling crew has been able to manage the rivers to avoid any flooding.
TVA says boaters should expect a great week on the water, but a spokesman did have one warning.
"With all the rain that we had earlier in the year, it's brought a lot of debris down in the river. If you're out on a boat you need to be watching that, be very careful of that. Make sure that you look out for it and go around it. We don't want anyone to have any problems hurting their boats or anything like that. We want them to have a good time but we want them to do it safely," said Chuck Bach, general manager of river scheduling.
The higher rainfall is good news for Tennessee. Hydrogeneration is up 36 percent this year, which is driving down energy costs.
