Some staff at an East Tennessee hospital will lose their health benefits at the end of the year.

Blount Memorial says it will stop providing health insurance benefits for part-time employees working less than 30 hours per week.

Officials say it was a difficult decision, but necessary due to the rising costs of providing health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

The hospital also says new part-time employees hired starting next week will not receive paid time off or paid sick leave, but that change will not affect existing part-time employees for now.
