(WBIR- Knoxville) Knox County Superintendent Dr. McIntyre says he's encouraged by improving TCAP scores.
Education leaders released statewide TCAP results Thursday. They showed improvement for the third straight year, especially in math.
Dr. McIntyre says that proves Common Core standards are paying off. Common Core is a fairly new standard adopted by the state designed to better prepare students for college and careers.
"What that tells you is that we raised standards, we went to Common Core in mathematics in a part-time basis in those subject areas and we still got really good academic results on the TCAP for our students. So, you can raise the bar, you can go deeper, you can move to Common Core and you're still going to see those academic gains continue. I think that was really encouraging," he said.
This coming school year is the last year for the TCAP tests before moving to tests that align with the new Common Core standards.
County-by-county TCAP scores will be released later this summer.
