(WBIR- Niota) The city of Niota has new insurance, at a hefty price tag.
Back in April, the city's insurance company dropped the city's liability policy following harassment complaints against commissioners. Without the policy, Niota had to park its fleet of city vehicles and keep police officers and firefighters at home.
Mayor Lois Preece says during an emergency meeting Friday, the city council approved general, police and fire insurance through Travelers Insurance.
The new insurance is more than eight times what the city paid previously. It paid about $7,100, and will now pay more than $58,000 per year.
Preece says the city isn't sure right now how it will pay for the difference, but may have to require a new tax.
